About

My name is Roderick van der Steen, 28 years old and I live in the The Netherlands.
I have been doing 3d graphics for quite some time now.
I graduated as a multimedia designer in the summer of 2003 from Grafisch Lyceum Amsterdam, specializing in moving image and animation.

In October 2003 I started working at Guerrilla in Amsterdam where I finished working on my first project there called Killzone,
which is a first person shooter set in the near future. It was released in the winter of 2004 exclusively for the PlayStation2 console.
My responsibility on the project was preparing, lighting, and rendering the levels and sets for the game environments and some of the cutscene environments.
After that I started working on Killzone 2 for Playstation 3 as a senior lighting artist guiding a small team that is responsible for the lighting in the game and cutscenes.

Currently I am working on Killzone 3 for Playstation 3 in the same role.

My main sources for inspiration come from both classic and modern art.
From Rembrandt van Rijn to Hayao Miyazaki, to H.R. Giger, a lot of artists inspire me in different ways.
My interests range from photoreal to npr, and in various styles.
Apart from doing 3d I also enjoy doing compositing and photography.

Software-wise I use Discreet 3ds max 5.1, Splutterfish LLC brazil R/S, and Combustion 4 and Nikon gear for my personal artwork.
